This course is an NRA instructor led course which takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. This course is designed for the person new to firearms and wanting to know and understand firearms safety and safe handling. This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.
Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules, and take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.
What To Bring
- Students will need a pistol
- All weapons will be inspected during the classroom phase
- Provide a State issued photo identification
- 3 dummy rounds
- 3 magazines
- 200 rounds of Factory New ammunition in their original manufacture carton in the correct caliber for each pistol/revolver you bring
- Reloads, Steel Core, Steel Case, or M855 Green Tip ammunition are not allowed
- Ammunition is NOT ALLOWED in the building or classroom.
- Ear protection (Electronic is preferred)
- Eye Protection
- Pen, Note Pad and Highlighter
- Water Bottle
- Cleaning Kit (specific to the firearm being used)
- Attire:
- Closed Toed shoes are required
- No scoop neck or V-neck shirts
- Baseball style hat
- Sturdy footwear
- Sunscreen (optional)
- Bug Spray (optional)
- Red Dot Optics are allowed
- no laser sights
